With Travelodge you have certain expectations, and they are not high. But this one certainly scrapes the barrel. Even for a halfway house, which this appeared to be, the facilities and attention to detail where sorely lacking. We had gotten off a 9 hour night flight from Vancouver and needed to sleep before heading home to Yorkshire. Luton seemed a sensible point in our journey from Heathrow. The person at the desk was most helpful in getting us booked in and the carpark sorted out but that's where the good times ended. The room had one double and two camp beds, that in itself was not a problem but did give an indication of the general clientele, which was confirmed at breakfast. Again not a problem. So, to the problems. No Tea Bags, (minor complaint) we just wanted a meal and to sleep all night. The meal was inedible. Sausage and mash for £12.50 each. I have had better £3.50 microwave meals. I am convinced the sausages where left over from breakfast and re-heated. Leather springs to mind. The young lady who served us was very sweet and tried to be helpful but obviously had not got a clue about drinks. They had not got drinks as listed on their menu so she just guessed at what we wanted. Breakfast was not much better. a bit of tinned fruit and a warm yoghurt. The croissants where dry and like cardboard and I guess the sausages where just waiting to be re-heated in the evening. We didn't even go there. So food gets a great big zero. So now to the bathroom. Two of us booked in. The room had 3 beds but only one hand towel, no Bath mat. but did at least have two bath towels. No soap in either dispenser, sink or bath. fortunately I had a small bottle from a recent visit to a hotel that provides such luxuries. After washing away the discarded hair from a previous occupant, the shower jut about passable. And when checking out, a bright and cheerful young lady asked if everything had been alright, as if she expected me to say yes. I politely said NO. She looked shocked. Perhaps it was her first day. I have now vowed never to use Travelodge again. There are so many better options out there, believe me.
